Dredging Happening at Carolina, Wrightsville And The Islands

This weekend while showing property at Carolina and Kure Beaches I noticed the huge waves rolling in. These strong waves are certainly affecting our beaches. They erode away our precious sand which brings tourists and homebuyers to SE NC. However we are certainly lucky that the US Government and the state of North Carolina are involved in providing $ 22 million to dredge and renourish sand on the beaches of Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Masonboro Islands. It certainly is needed. Those dredging barges although big and nasty looking are a welcome sight as we know they will add sand and contribute sand to the gorgeous white sandy beaches we enjoy in Southeastern NC.

145 th Anniversary of the Battle of Fort Fisher

The roar of canons, gunfire, advancing troops, retreating troops, the smell of bacon and eggs cooking for breakfast at the camps, woman stoking the home fires, children playing alongside - this was the scene at the 145 th Anniversary of the Battle of Fort Fisher. After 6 long hours of the battle the north took Fort Fisher and cut off all supplies to the south from the Port of Wilmington. This was a pivotal time for the Civil War and the beginning of the end. The war ended 6 months later. This re-enactment was a realistic view of this battle with hundreds of participants and thousands of viewers. It was amazing to see such a portrayal done right on the grounds of this historic battle.

Cucalorus Film Festival This Week in Wilmington NC

Cucalorus Film Festival starts tommorow in venues all over Wilmington, NC. Over 1000 films were submitted for the 15 year old festival. However 150 made it in the festival. You can buy tickets at the door for most films however the season passes to all films are sold out. Many new movies are featured here including international films. A full schedule of events is available on Cuculorus Film Festival website http://www.cuculorus.org/. Some of these good films are only $ 10.00.

One hugely anticipated movie Precious will be shown during the festival. It will be a good opportunity to see some good indie flicks...

Lots happening here in Wilmington and its Beaches weekend...

Beach to Battleship Triathalon - all day Saturday - will cut off traffic starts at Wrightsville Beach and then heads downtown to Battleship. They expect city traffic to be backed up all day. Watch out for runners and bikers.

11th Annual Festival Latino will take place Saturday at Hugh McRae Park from 11-8. Food, fun and entertainment.

Sports Resale at Legion Stadium - all day 9-8pm. $1.00 to attend.
